Alex’s Answer

Hey Ryan,

In working with the IRS, I can see right off the bat they are understaffed. So their case load might grow exponentially but there aren't enough resources to take them on. For instance, in working through an audit for one of my clients, we might give a response to the IRS in 30 days, and not hear back from them for months since they are juggling so much. Other pain points include: working with angry taxpayers (no one wants to be audited), needing to know several different areas of tax (you might be doing an audit for Tax Credits, Transfer Pricing, and International all at once and will need to have knowledge of all areas), and pay.

Skarlett’s Answer

Hey Ryan,

I think the most challenging part might be handling the letters they get and dealing with changes people make. I'm not an IRS employee, but as an accountant, I can guess that these are some of the common issues they face.

Saurabh’s Answer

I believe the toughest aspect of working at the IRS is handling the continuous alterations in laws. This challenge is genuinely common in many professions, but it is likely the hardest when working for the IRS. This is because you are required to both understand and enforce these laws.
