For an entry-level job, only a high school diploma is needed, as the IRS will provide training. After college, required skills depend on your chosen field. Since you mentioned accounting, the IRS may find you a good fit. Consider an IRS internship during your senior year to gain work experience, making you a top candidate for future jobs. My mom, who worked at the IRS for 30+ years, provided this information.

I recommend you check out USA Jobs (https://www.usajobs.gov/) and filter for positions at the IRS. That way you can see some of the qualifications that will help you prepare your resume. Federal resumes can be different than resumes you would use to apply for jobs outside of the government. USA Jobs has a helpful resume builder to ensure you don't miss any required information. Federal positions can be hard to get, so don't hesitate to apply to more than one, and keep applying even if you don't hear back initially.
