There are many good schools for accounting. Some of the ones I would look at include: University of Texas, Notre Dame, University of Virgina, Michigan, UC Berkley. You should also think about what type of accountant do you want to be as that may impact where you go.

Kristen’s Answer

There are many good schools with accounting programs. Think about whether you'd like to stay in state, or if you are willing to move out of state. Also look into what other things the school has to offer that is important to you: sports, social clubs, etc. You can find rating of the schools and their programs online. Both sites already mentioned are good sources.

Kara’s Answer

Hi Shea! Props to you for knowing your interest in accounting so early on. Most students (even those currently in college) do not know what they want to study/major in. When picking a university for your accounting education, make sure that the college offers a degree in accounting. Some schools only offer general business, economics, etc. degrees. Try to find one with a bachelor of science in accounting. I highly recommend attending a school that offers a Master's of Accounting program for after you finish your undergraduate degree.

I for one went to the University of Kansas which offered a great undergraduate and Master's program in accounting. I also have colleagues who attended Notre Dame and Gonzaga who also have nothing but positive things to say.

Keep in mind when picking a school the many factors that go into it including cost, environment, climate, prestige, scholarships, location, and so on. I suggest doing some research into your top 5 and narrowing it down from there by weighing the pros and cons of each option.

Whatever you decide, please go to school and earn some type of degree- you will go far in life and your opportunities will be endless. Would love to discuss the University of Kansas with you if you are interested in this school!
