Hi! Great question!! I did some laboratory research for my university over the summer when I was in high school. I was able to get my data published on their recent paper as well. The first step I would is to ask your school counselor if there are any research internships with your local universities you can apply to. You can try googling as well to find this information. If there's nothing, I would try to look at faculty information at the department of psychology and see if there are any professors whose research interests you. Then I would write an email stating your interest and ask if they allow volunteers in the lab. That's how I was able to get my summer position as a high schooler! It does take a few email attempts before any professors would reply, so don't be discouraged.
