What are the most important values one can take from nursing into their own lives? #Spring23
What are the core values as a nurse? How do those values play a role in furthering yourself as a human being? Are there any practices or procedures in nursing or the Healthcare system that we can translate into our daily lifestyle?

I found that the most important values are honesty, compassion and respect for everyone who I treated. The way I have treated myself and others in my life. When I was taking care of my father I would remember he was not just my dad but also a patient. I still showed him the honesty, respect, compassion and love that I have been giving to everyone. He was greatful that I treated him like everyone else.
Thank you for sharing your perspective.

Traditionally, nursing has always been regarded as the profession demanding the most integrity. It demands accountability, collaboration, and the ability to advocate for your patients.
I bring these into my personal life and in my volunteer activities. I don't know, however, that I took these things from nursing, rather, I was already an advocate for the weak, I was already a person of honesty, integrity and accountability, so I was already the kind of person who would be attracted to nursing.

Thank you for giving me advice.

This is a great question. Kudos to you for asking it, very thought provoking.
The two core values of nursing that I bring into my own personal life is human dignity and social justice. As a nurse practitioner working with patients with serious illness, I am constantly working on advocating for my patients, and providing support in every aspect of their care.
In times when I am struggling with personal decisions, I go back to these core values and I try to integrate them in my own decision making.
