What is the best thing to do?

Not really sure what to ask, but I am going to be an accountant major at Stetson university this fall and I was wondering if there was any general advice I could be given. Like is there any common tools that could help me.

Thank you comment icon Hi Cesar , My first advice is to read the chapters before class and practice the end of chapter questions. My second advice is to make sure you study hard and understand the concepts for financial accounting and managerial accounting. Those two classes are the foundation of all future accounting classes. My last advice is to be involve in your campus and community. Volunteering and extracurricular activities are a great way to market yourself when applying for jobs or internships. PwC Impact

PwC’s Answer

Hello Cesar,
Your question is fantastic, as it opens up a vast array of opportunities for you to step into the accounting profession. One of the most beneficial actions you can take during your schooling is to engage with your professors outside the classroom, delving deeper into the subjects discussed in class. Try to understand how these topics translate into the everyday tasks of a professional in the field.

In addition to this, strive to be an active participant in your classes. This means taking comprehensive notes, asking insightful questions, and sitting towards the front of the room.

Building such a strong rapport with your professors can unlock opportunities you might not even know exist right now.

Keep up the hard work!

Hi Cesar,

It's fantastic that you've chosen to follow a career path in accounting!

Although it might appear challenging at first, college can be an enjoyable and enlightening journey. To ensure your success, I recommend completing your studies and assignments before their deadlines, utilizing a planner to organize your semesters, actively seeking help and attending office hours if you're struggling with the coursework, and participating in campus organizations to build valuable connections!

Wishing you the best of luck!

Jerome’s Answer

Connections matter. Introduce yourself to professors and take advantage of opportunities to connect. As you look to get work, you’ll potentially need recommendations and they can be great resources.

If there are associations or study groups you can join, surround yourself with likeminded individuals. The quality of your network will have a positive impact.

Also have fun, you’ll look back and realize that school represented simpler times later in life; even if slightly stressful in the moment. Good luck!

Start out by getting familiar with what college is like, meet new friends, and get a grasp of your class syllabus and build out a plan for your semester so you stay on track.

Wesley’s Answer

Hi Cesar,

I would suggest joining an Accounting or Finance club. I Joined one of these clubs as a freshman and it resulted in me attending some leadership conferences with the Big 4 accounting firms, which eventually led to an internship and then career.
