What would be a good passion project for someone who doesn't know what they want to do in life yet? #Spring23
Hey! I'm a 9th grader and I'm trying to get a head start on careers and college and I have heard many good things about passion projects and I wanted to try them. I love theater, acting, and biking and I love to travel.

Dear Elizabeth,
You are making a great start! It is good to take this time to explore, to know yourself; know too that you can never plan entirely, because life will always present surprises.
What kind of life do you see for yourself? Where does it take place? Who are you with? What makes life meaningful to you? What do you value? Answering these and other questions will guide you towards a rewarding adult life. Your livelihood always takes place in context — where and how you live and your relationships.
Visualising yourself living the life you want — tons of focused visualisations can be found on YouTube — can yield powerful results.
An idea for your next steps in gathering information: I recommend asking for advice from anyone around you (or who you meet), who seems to be living a life you’d like. Ask them if they’d mind sharing. I bet they will.
Do you have a chance to meet local actors, people involved with cycling? Could be another direction to explore.
Re passion projects: go for it by all means, but be prepared to work your b*tt off
In fact, no matter what you do, be prepared to work hard and always keep learning.
Don’t worry too much about the exact specifics — when I was in high school, there was no such thing as the internet! No way to plan for disrupters like this, covid, etc .
Re travel: I grew up in the US, I live in Belgium now and have done for 25 years. I too wanted to travel. I didn’t know how I would do it exactly but it happened. It can be done :)
Best of luck to you ! You will get there !!

Hello Elizabeth,
Choosing the right career path involves knowing yourself well. Think about what subjects you enjoy, like math or social studies. Consider whether you're more analytical and detail-oriented or if you have a broader, creative mindset. Since you love theater and acting, it seems like your personality leans towards creativity. In that case, you might want to pursue a college focused on arts, dance, or music. There, you can explore various job opportunities, including acting, producing, writing, or teaching.
Another helpful tip for deciding on a career is to gain hands-on experience by shadowing a professional in the field. Spend some days in their work environment and ask questions about the job during breaks. This can give you valuable insights into the career you're considering.
Wishing you the best of luck!
