My degree is in journalism, but I’m taking photography courses. Should I get an internship and photography or in journalism? ?

i’m looking for an internship that I could do over the summer

Thank you comment icon You have a degree in journalism? Well, what is your end goal? What's your passion? Generally, you look for internships in early spring. David Wuerth

Participating in a journalism or photography internship can significantly improve your skills. It's a good idea to consider a journalism internship, as they can be challenging to come across, while you can develop your photography abilities during your leisure time.

David’s Answer

Which is your passion? If you enjoy photography more, pursue it; if journalism is your passion, pursue it. Ideally, your college may offer a photo-journalism major. If you have time, get an internship in photography this summer and journalism next summer. Or look for opportunities with the school newspaper. When you intern, don't be afraid to ask the workers in either field questions on what they like about their career.

If I were you I would ask the station where I intern if I could do both.
Most stations, at least my former stations, would have appreciated someone who took upon themselves to gain experience in both fields.
If it's a 6 or 8 internship ask if you do half with a reporter and half as a photog. If you're allowed, then do both, you can decide once you complete the internship where your passion lies.
