How does one know a certain career path is the right one for them?
I'm a 12th grader going into college next year, and interested in pursuing something in the medical field!

It's great that you're considering your career as you start college.
The medical field offers many career options. Begin exploring programs at your college that can help you pursue a medical profession. Academic advisors and career counselors can guide you in the right direction. If you want to provide health care (as a doctor, nurse, medical technician, or physician assistant), you should start taking core science classes in your first semester.
Additionally, there are opportunities in the business side of medicine, such as hospital administration, medical insurance, government programs, and medical coding. Schools now offer classes for these specific careers.
During school breaks, try shadowing professionals in your chosen field or find entry-level positions at doctor's offices, clinics, or hospitals. This will help you gain experience, learn more about different aspects of health care, and decide on the role you want to play.

Hello Sara,
I have a few ideas for you:
1) First, let's reflect on your own interests. What makes you believe that a career in the medical field is the right path for you?
2) I've found an excellent medical career website that offers detailed information on over 40 different medical professions. It covers aspects like job responsibilities, necessary education, salary, and pay. This resource could be incredibly useful for someone like you who's exploring a future in the medical field! Check it out here: https://college.mayo.edu/academics/explore-health-care-careers/careers-a-z/

Hey Sara, great job on choosing a field to begin your career! When you dive into the medical world, you'll come across many important subjects. The one you enjoy the most might be perfect for specializing in. There might be days when you're not feeling it, but remember, it's up to you to make your journey thrilling. I hope this helps!

You don't :)
Sometimes it's just about committing and going for it, and understanding you'll like some of it and not other parts. Sometimes it's through process of eliminations because you know you prefer some careers over others. You are capable of doing well in several careers and there might be a time you change your mind or you'll want to pursue something different. Many people look for 100% certainty in careers but there will be awesome days and horrible days at work no matter what. If it challenges you in a good way, if it's something that can provide the life you're looking for, if it's not something you dread then it's the right fit :)
