What do biomedical engineers do and is it a good profession to get into?

Hello I am a junior and I have always wanted to become an engineer and while I want to go into mechanical engineering, I am still unsure about what specific field of engineering I would like to work in. I have heard good things about biomedical engineering but would like a professional view of the field as I am still somewhat unsure of what this job entails. #engineering #mechanical-engineering

Justina’s Answer

A biomedical engineer designs medical equipment e.g., artificial body parts such as hip joints, knee joints, implantable technologies such as pacemakers, insulin pumps. They may also test designs to ensure sound engineering practices were followed. Anything that needs designed has an engineering application.

It may help to look at jobs posted by various companies such as those you would like to work for and look at: 1) the types of degrees required for the jobs that interest you; 2) the types of jobs requiring a certain type of engineering degree such as a biomedical engineering degree.
