John’s Answer
The above answer is great the only recommendation I have is that you get a good pair of of cotton or wool pants, cotton or wool shirt with sleeves, steel toed work boots suitable for high voltage, good pair of light weight gloves, lastly a pair of safety glasses (not tinted). Once you are so "geared up" go knock on a few electrical company commercial not governmental and ask if you could be an intern/apprentice , basic laborer, whatever and could they teach you to be a good electrician.

An Electrician 's specific duties are mainly focused on maintenance, diagnosis and troubleshooting of fault, repairs and upgrading of electrical systems. On a typical day , an electrician may be on call waiting for faults that might come up however during no call ups , an electrician may do preventive maintenance in all electrical systems. For example checking for overheating on cables and machine, checking for loose connections , checking for undervoltage and over voltage. He may also check for overloads and over currents on machines and systems. An electrician should also check the storeroom for spares to be used in future breakdowns. He should check for safety of users of appliances and machines and always observe safety rules including PPE
