Hi, Florence,
In order to be a speech pathologist in CA you need the following:
- a graduate degree in speech-language pathology, communication science disorders, etc.
- a minimum of 400 supervised clinical hours
- pass the praxis examination
- obtain certificate of clinical competence (CCC) from ASHA or approved clinical fellowship (CF) for your first practicing year
- pass a state jurisprudence exam
- obtain a state liscense to practice
- obtain the special class authorization (SCA) teaching authorization to work in schools
As for the Master's degree, you will likely still need to take a few pre-required courses if your undergraduate degree was in a separate field. For example, most Master's programs require undergraduate credits in hearing science, statistics, head/neck anatomy, linguistics, and child development.
