Another way to consider this is that certain things might become distractions if they consistently prevent you from pursuing your objectives. In college, I managed to stay focused by surrounding myself with individuals who shared similar aspirations and were working towards their dreams, rather than those who were just there for fun. This doesn't mean you shouldn't enjoy your college experience or have a good time with friends, but it's essential to maintain a balance.
During school, you'll encounter clubs, sports, homework for unrelated courses, personal issues, romantic and platonic relationships, work, and hobbies. Achieving your dream while being alone and missing out on many experiences isn't ideal. Therefore, it's crucial to establish a schedule to keep things organized.
At times, unforeseen circumstances like financial difficulties and health problems may arise. It's vital not to let these setbacks discourage you.

Hi, Dania,
You have identified one of the main challenges for college life, especially in a dorm. The simple answer to your question is 'everything.' While you are at college, everything around you will be competing for your attention: sporting events, parties (there is at least one on campus somewhere every afternoon and every night), romantic interests, dorm noise, student clubs, and extracurricular activity opportunities. To protect yourself, you will benefit by developing a time management strategy, allotting time for homework, and time for all other activities. Keep track of your plan and adjust as needed - but be sure to review whether you're giving your studies the predefined time you allotted. You will experience a significant growth in maturity while there, but do keep in mind that this time at college is the launchpad for your life. A successful college experience should include many happy and fun memories, as well as the knowledge for the next step in your career. I wish you the best.

Hi Dania,
During your college journey, there will be many distractions, such as parties, spending time with friends, and watching TV, among others. To effectively manage these distractions, I recommend organizing your schedule as much as possible. By doing so, you can allocate specific hours for studying, submitting assignments, and enjoying leisure time with friends. In essence, a well-planned schedule will enable you to strike a balance between fun and staying focused on your academic goals. Stay encouraged and make the most of your college experience!

Dania - College is filled with distractions. One way to stay the course without letting distractions overwhelm you is to create a schedule that captures the things you must do, but also builds in time for fun or non-core activities. When I was in college, I didn’t have much money, so I had to limit things like concerts and restaurant meals. I made time to socialize in the dining hall because my meal plan was covered or met people for ice cream or inexpensive activities. Also be sure to build in time for sleep and physical activity as getting enough of each will help you to stay focused.
