Errica’s Answer
The best thing to know is that you are responsible for capturing the images that the radiologist needs. You are doing the scanning not the machine so it demands high attention to detail and being able to confidently know normal from abnormal anatomy.

To add to Erica's answer: Is there a community college near you? You could call and see if you could meet with someone from the Ultrasound Technology Program to learn more about the specifics, such as what courses you should take to get into the program; what the day in the life of an Ultrasound Technician is like. Many colleges have career fairs you could attend to get all of your questions answered and they are always happy to do so!

Abbie Van’s Answer
As an ultrasound technician, it's crucial to remember that many individuals lack a comprehensive understanding of ultrasound technology. This gap in knowledge is evident when interacting with seasoned radiologists and retired technicians. The level of confusion about your role will vary among patients; this is partly because ultrasound technicians are seldom represented in the media, and partly because the general public doesn't share our perspective on sound/imaging. Additionally, our ability to perform our jobs seamlessly often gives the impression that it's easier than it actually is.
Never let the uninformed opinions about your profession undermine your work, especially when they come from those who are unfamiliar with what you do.
Therefore, when contemplating this profession, be cautious of the disparity between existing public knowledge and the potential knowledge you could acquire.
