How can I explore career paths productively as a recent graduate?
I just graduated with a bachelors in music and have taken up 2 different internships during my tertiary studies so far to find out my career path. I’m still lost, and wondering how to productively explore and find out what type of career I like while still having financial stability. I would like to not continue teaching and explore non-teaching career paths.

Hi Ashley! I believe to be productively exploring and find out what type of career you like while still having financial stability, would be to utilize resources and networking to be able to speak with professionals and peers. As you mentioned, you have completed some internships. I believe in searching for other internships that provide different opportunities could be helpful.

Hi, Ashley,
A possibility is to review your college credits and speak with a college advisor for assistance in mapping a plan toward an additional degree. Many of the credits you have can be used to redirect your career plans, especially now that you have a firmer idea on your future. Another strategy is to revisit your achievements; that is, teaching is a great experience in building consulting and interpersonal skills. You could rewrite your resume to focus on non-music items. Most employers will look at what you can do and your potential. In my career, I regularly saw people succeed in positions in which their college experience did not contribute. I wish you the best.

I appreciate you taking the time to answer this, David! I’m just not quite financially able to afford a masters degree right now, just looking for ways to explore the job market! But what you said in the second half is pretty good, and I’ll consider those! Thank you!
