What do you need to become a dermatologist (Is it worth it)?
I'm planning on becoming a dermatologist but I want some actual advice from people who have expertise in that field.

Good evening
If you want expertise from people within the field they may or may not be on this site specifically; but one thing you can do is reach out to dermatologists on LinkedIn and you can also see which dermatologist are available in your area and talk to them!

Do you love medicine? Do you love helping people? Do you love things that are gross? Lol
I’m married to a dermatologist who did a surgical residency and does Mohs’ surgery for skin cancer.
I am a nurse and worked in our office as an assistant all the way up to COO. I was previously a NICU nurse.
I was so surprised at how interesting derm is and how many choices patients have for treatments. Many advances have been made in the area of biological drugs that significantly improve many diseases.
My husband went to Penn for pre med. 4 years
Yale for medical school 4 years
Yale for internship 1 year
Yale for residency 3 years
Yale for surgical fellowship 2 years
He has been practicing since 1994.
He loves what he does and his patients. It’s fits perfectly with his need to keep moving. It’s a fast paced field, you can help so many people and in the surgery he performs he is able to cure skin cancer- let people know that their cancer is gone that day of surgery.
If you have a passion for something than anything you do is worth it. You will be doing it for the rest of your working life.
Best of luck

I'm a family practice physician. Dermatology is very challenging because of the lifestyle of the physician. FYI When you get into medical school, you will need to be at the top of your class.
Timeline:
4 years high school
4 years college
4 years medical school
I think residency is 3-4 years
