Actually, the best path to being a private chef, depends on your goals and preferences. Some of the ideas that could help you excel in culinary arts and become an excellent private chef include but not limited to the following;
1. Education and training: Make and effort to enroll as a culinary arts student and earn knowledge on culinary arts. Check on Schools offering this course excellently and gain a strong foundation.
2. Find institutions to gain practical skills. This includes but not limited to internships, hotels, fast foods restaurants, and catering organizations. this will improve your catering skills as you learn from experienced chefs.
3. Specialize and improve your skills. As you work, make sure you get a specialization and work towards making it excellent.
4. Networking
5. Develop your personal brand as a culinary specialist. This will attract customers as a private chef. ( I WILL WRITE IN CAPITAL LETTERS, THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE; BECAUSE YOU WANT TO WORK INTO A PRIVATE CHEF GROUP)
6. Gain experience as a private chef
7. Market your brand and find gigs from clients. This marketing could include social media, photographs💯, business cards, and culinary word if mouth.

Generally, being a private chef not only needs proffesional skills but being disclipine, patient, hard worker, and independence.

I would recommend one thing: get cooking! Anywhere. Fast food, family restaurant, doesn't matter. You will learn a ton about food prep, cooking, serving, and cleaning even if the menu is simple, corporate, and not that exciting for someone wanting to be a private chef. I cooked in a family restaurant when I was in high school and the lessons extend beyond the "food" part: you'll gain an understanding of the business basics, personnel issues, how to deal with tough situations, etc etc.
Finally, for a private chef maybe figure out a specialty that works for you: diabetic, vegan, low sodium, whatever. That should help you carve out some business separate from other chefs.
Good luck and bon appetit!
Jon
