Hi Cynthia,

Since I'm a designer, and not an animators or illustrators, I wasn't too sure if I should answer your question. But we use a lot of the same computer software programs, so I thought why not. :)

Adobe Creative Cloud is your best bet. Most animators does drafting and sketching on Adobe Illustrator and most of the time use a Wacom tablet (http://www.wacom.com/en-us/products/pen-tablets).

Autodesk software is something you might want to look into to: They have a range of software that allows animators to do 3D modeling, animation, rendering, and compositing solution for games, film, and motion graphics artists. Good luck.

Dream big, Vivian

Monica’s Answer

You do not need a specific computer but it does depend on the work you are doing. If you are doing intense animations that need a lot of render time such as in 3D animations in Maya, it does help to get a computer that is fast and strong enough to do the job without crashing. But usually for basic work you can get it done on a MacBook Pro, which is what I'm using.
