Richard’s Answer

Some associate degree programs require you get certified as a Nursing Assistant prior to starting nursing clinical classes. It saves time for other skills in the nursing clinical. I have never seen any programs that required you work as a CNA however some of us found it useful to work in less complex roles first. Nursing has many paths and allow many options.

John’s Answer

That's an excellent query. Rest assured, you can definitely pursue a career as a Registered Nurse (RN) without prior experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). There's no mandate for any nursing program that requires you to be a CNA first. While many individuals do start as CNAs, the responsibilities in each role are distinct. Gaining experience in the healthcare sector can indeed be beneficial in shaping your decision to become a nurse. However, remember that such valuable experience can also be acquired through various other roles within the field. So, don't limit yourself and keep exploring your options. You've got this!

Brittany’s Answer

You absolutely can. I would agree with John in saying that it is a great first step to getting some experience in a hospital or medical setting. I worked as a secretary and nursing assistant before going to/while in nursing school, and it definitely helped me feel more comfortable with patients. Plus, I met some great connections that helped me get my first job out of nursing school.
