How many hours daily and weekly do Ob-gyn work?
I am a sophomore at Cristo Rey and is try to choose my career path. I have been thinking about being an obstetriant since sixth grade. #doctor #college-major #professional

While some obstetricians work primarily in hospitals, many work in private practices with or without other doctors. While they are trained to deal with complications, about 60 to 80 percent of births are considered routine, according to the American Pregnancy Association. Self-employed obstetricians who work with their own patients commonly work 50 to 70 hours per week. They see patients in their offices and either deliver all of their pregnancies or rotate with colleagues. Hospital-based obstetricians often have more regular schedules and cover emergency cases and other issues that arise while they are on duty.

Our office hours are usually 08:30 a.m. to 5:00 pm seeing patients in the office. Lots of physicians take one afternoon off per week as well. In larger practices, physicians rotate evening call which can be very unpredictable, and they rotate weekend call as well. The important thing is to find a balanced schedule and work with people that you trust and admire so that you can pass the care of your patients on to someone that will take good care of them when you are not available.
