Hello and thank you for this great question. I wanted to 1st become a doctor to follow in my father’s footsteps, but more importantly, because it is job where I can help people everyday. Every patient you care for is a unique human being and being able to treat their illnesses and make them healthier is truly rewarding.

Hi Anna,
When I was a kid, I was sick, and none of the doctors understood what was happening to me. As a result, I am permanently disabled, but I also have a profound relationship with the medical system and healthcare. I know how it feels to be a patient with a serious chronic issue and how helpless and vulnerable it makes you feel. I had mixed experiences with doctors. Some of them were wonderful and made me feel seen, heard, and respected despite what was happening to me. Others treated me poorly and made me feel scared and ashamed.
As I got older, I wanted to become an advocate for other people like me, people who are vulnerable in society and, therefore, especially vulnerable in the healthcare system. There are many ways to do advocacy, and I wanted to be a voice inside the system to change it for the better. I was lucky enough to have supportive parents and teachers, and I worked hard to go down the path of medicine. The more I learned about medicine and healthcare, the more I loved it. Now, I can't see myself doing anything else. I'm passionate about medicine, helping and supporting my patients, and fixing the system that heals and harms us.
Anyway, I hope my response gives you some worthwhile insight into what motivates me and makes me passionate about medicine and becoming a doctor.
