What's the best piece of advice for someone who is stuck between career paths?
I am a junior at Boston Collegiate, and soon enough I will be attending college. I am curious and eager to learn more about science, especially with chemistry or environmental science, but I am also passionate about writing. I’m stuck at a fork in the road – which passion do I pursue? Of course, I don’t expect someone to answer this question, but I was wondering if anyone had been in a similar situation and had some words of wisdom which helped them choose.

What you are encountering is common. However you can overcome this getting to know yourself better and getting to know people who are doing things that might be suitable for you. Here are come suggestions from my many years in Human Relations.
Getting to know yourself and how your personality traits relate to people involved in various career opportunities is very important in your decision making process. During my many years in Human Resources and College Recruiting, I ran across too many students who had skipped this very important step and ended up in a job situation which for which they were not well suited. Selecting a career area is like buying a pair of shoes. First you have to be properly fitted for the correct size, and then you need to try on and walk in the various shoe options to determine which is fits the best and is most comfortable for you to wear. Following are some important steps which I developed during my career which have been helpful to many .

Hi Madisyn! Great question.
One suggestion is get an internship or volunteer in one or both of the professions so you can see what a "day in the life" of that professional is like. For example, you can volunteer in a research lab, park, zoo, or aquarium to gain more environmental science experience or submit some of your work to newspapers, magazines, and literary journals to explore writing opportunities.
You may also want to consider pairing the two - for example you could do science research and then submit to academic journals and magazines or look at magazines like National Geographic and see how journalists pair their love of nature, geography, etc. with good writing.
