Amy’s Answer

I had 2 things that I feel were my biggest challenges while in school. The first was getting through physics. My brain just doesn't click with things that I am unable to see and feel. I am a hands-on learner so I had to memorize formulas and such in order to pass that part of the course and then the registry. The second thing is along the same lines as Katie described. Learning the orientation of the images and the transducers can be tricky. Thankfully after 25 years it is like second nature but in the beginning it was tough.

Katie’s Answer

For me, learning what anatomy in both sagittal and cross section looks like on an ultrasound. U/S technologists also have to know normal vs abnormal anatomy, and disease processes (such as if you see this on an ultrasound, then you look for this). It is our responsibility to show the radiologists ALL of what is going on in the patient, and that is what makes us so valuable. If we don’t take an image of it, then the radiologist won’t see it either.
