London Doyoung’s Answer

Do you know of any pharmacists around your neighborhood, maybe where you fill your prescriptions? And which pharmacist do you want to shadow--hospital or retail? Clinical pharmacists working in hospital are clinicians who provide assessments and plans for patients, while retail pharmacists (e.g. Walgreens, CVS, etc.) focus on double checking the correctness of prescription and dispensing the medication. Most of the time, staffs working inside the pharmacy are very hesitant on letting other people inside the pharmacy due to the possibility of unauthorized individual stealing drugs. But of course, it's still possible. If you are affiliated in the school that provides that type of program, that'd be the best but if not, then just walk up to the pharmacy in person and ask.

Marybeth’s Answer

The best course of action is to ask. With patient privacy being what it is, do not be surprised if the larger organization will need to clear you first. If you really want to know what it is like to be a pharmacist, you could become employed as a pharmacy technician. This is really a great way to see the day to day workings of a retail pharmacist. The hospital setting is much different as the pharmacist is working w acute care patients and is not serving customers at a counter.
