Starting a fashion business from scratch can be challenging, but it's not impossible, even as a sophomore in high school. Here are some steps to consider:

1. **Develop Your Skills:** Continue to hone your writing and drawing skills. These talents can be valuable in the fashion industry, particularly in areas like fashion illustration, graphic design, or fashion journalism.

2. **Learn About Fashion:** Use free online resources, like fashion blogs, YouTube channels, and online courses, to expand your knowledge of the fashion industry. Understand different aspects such as fashion history, design principles, and current trends.

3. **Start Small:** You don't need a lot of money to begin. Start with small DIY projects, like designing custom clothing, accessories, or merchandise. You can sell these items online through platforms like Etsy or social media.

4. **Networking:** Attend local fashion events, workshops, and meetups to network with people who share your interests. You can learn from others and potentially find collaborators or mentors.

5. **Entrepreneurial Mindset:** Start thinking like an entrepreneur. Identify problems or gaps in the fashion market that you could address with your skills and creativity.

6. **Business Plan:** Even a small fashion business needs a plan. Outline your goals, target audience, and how you plan to reach them. Think about branding, pricing, and marketing strategies.

7. **Online Presence:** Create an online presence through social media and a simple website or blog to showcase your work and ideas. This can help you build an audience and gain exposure.

8. **Seek Guidance:** Consider talking to teachers, counselors, or local business owners for advice. They may provide valuable insights and support.

9. **Explore Psychology:** If you're interested in both fashion and brain psychology, explore the intersection of these interests. There's a growing field of study around the psychology of fashion and consumer behavior.

10. **Stay Open to Ideas:** Inspiration can come from unexpected places. Stay open to new ideas and keep a notebook handy to jot down any concepts that come to mind.

Remember, entrepreneurship often involves trial and error. Don't be discouraged by initial setbacks, and be open to adapting your ideas along the way. Your passion for fashion, combined with your writing and drawing skills, can be a unique starting point for your journey into the fashion industry.

Alanda’s Answer

I always tell people to do what you love. I understand you have some barriers, but we all do. That doesn't mean it's impossible, just a little harder. You're in 10th grade, so you are almost old enough to work a part time job, if not then try cleaning people's yards or doing odd jobs to make some extra money. If you truly want to have a fashion business, making the extra effort to make it happen, won't be daunting or frustrating because you know you're working towards a goal.
Stop looking at your situation from what you don't have and start looking at it from what you do have. You have a gift, perseverance, and your youth. Figure out what you want to do in the fashion industry and start doing it. Look at videos that will help you build your skills, then search for volunteer work. Be creative in your approach, try different ways of problem solving.
Does your school offer classes or part time jobs that interest you? What about college or junior college, what opportunities do they have for the youth? Do you have a counselor?
If all else fails, just build your own niche or industry. Get you a drawing book, that costs about $5 at the store "5 and Below" and start drawing. Although, you will run into obstacles, you can still overcome those obstacles, just be creative.

Look into an organization called NFTE. They work with students on business plans and have a conception to help you focus your thoughts.

If NFTE is not available where you are, I’m sure you can find a similar organization (like SCORE) or even seek support from a business teachers or entrepreneurship club.
