Personal experience I've had with a patient who needed abortion. Pill for ectopic pregnancy. Yes, she needed the pill. The baby was not going to survive. And it was going to hurt the mother but I couldn't get to the point where I was okay to give the pill. So I asked my co-worker for moral support So I wouldn't violate my conscience (Prayer/ guidance)
And I decided to tell the doctor that I was extremely uncomfortable giving the pill even though I knew it was necessary. In my case the doctor understood and gave the pill Herself. So my point is, you have to honor your conscience. And respectfully inform your employer and ask for ways of compromise. As well as be prepared with a few suggestions of your own to solve the dilemma.

Hi Pamela,
It depends on the things you can't do according to your religion. For example, in some religions, you have to attend services on certain days or can't work on certain days. If that's the case, it might be hard to find travel jobs that will allow you to have certain days off all of the time. Most nursing jobs want you to be flexible (mostly hospital jobs).
Another example is if your religion doesn't allow you to care for certain people like a male nurse helping a female patient with bathing or vice versa. Although some jobs understand this and try to arrange a different nurse to help (especially if the patient is uncomfortable), sometimes in nursing you may have to do some things that go against your religion.
The best thing to do is to make a list of the things that you can't do according to your religion, and ask about it during the interview and see if you all can come to an agreement. Another option is to find jobs where you don't have to compromise your religion. But you might not like the job, the tasks, or the schedule. You'll have to be very open to working in a variety of settings to find the right fit.
