Hi, Avery. In my current role as a Client Associate with UBS Financial Services - the requirements are that I eventually earn multiple securities licenses. I have 3 Securities Industry exams I need to pass/attain to fully fulfill my role. I am still unlicensed and my role is predominantly clerical.
By education, and volunteer experience, I am a teacher. I earned a Bachelors in History because I originally anticipated being a high school history teacher. I pursued a Masters after learning that there wasn't really a difference in pay from teaching high school over elementary. I have volunteered with children and youth since I was in 6th grade walking kindergarteners to the bus and in greater capacities at age 13 onwards.
I believe volunteering in a variety of capacities is integral to confidently determining a career choice.

Hello Avery,
I initially started out by studying International Business, so I have a Bachelor's degree which was a good starting point for my career in business. It got me a management trainee job at a renowned logistics company where I ended up managing multi-million dollar projects before being headhunted to move abroad for another project management position. This lead me into self-employment, consulting and currently a sales position at a leading software company.
The amount of "formal education" required for a job depends on the position we strive for, but we all eventually come to learn that particularly in business actual experience and especially transferable skills are immensely valuable in career progression.
All the very best to you!

Hi Avery, what a great question! One would start with their interests and passion.
Personally, I have always liked solving problems and was opening up a lot of electronics around the house as a kid. so, I decided to study engineering with a focus on electronics and communications ( ex: telecoms, satellites etc). It was a four-year course and I got a job by the end of it.
After getting into the job - I learnt a lot about other areas within the Telecom organization and the Privacy area piqued my interest so did further courses to enhance my knowledge there. I also did more training on Enterprise Architecture framework ( took a few weeks of studying) so it can help me solve enterprise-level problems. Hope this helps.
