Marketing has many different transferable skills, and there are very different types of marketing depending on what your strengths are. For example, market research is based on analytics and the ability to tell stories out of numbers, while a strategic marketing professional will have to be a strong planner and strategize and collaborate well. Some top skills across marketing disciplines would be: organization, interpersonal skills, communication, analytical abilities, collaboration, problem solving and some level of creative thinking. As a marketer you are often not working in silos but part of a larger group working on a main goal so collaboration and people skills are important. Good luck, great field!
I encourage you to visit professional sites such as LinkedIn or Indeed and look up jobs such a "Market Researcher" and "marketing analyst" or "brand marketer" to see what skills, strengths and qualifications come up and what job descriptions read as, this will help you gauge whether you like the sound of the job duties.
Start by marketing yourself! Make sure you have a strong resume, and if possible try and get some internships in the field. Marketing roles usually require a Bachelor's level degree.
Network as much as possible!

Hello there! It's great to see so many insightful responses already, so I'll keep my advice concise and to the point. I believe two skills are paramount:
1) Always keep your customer at the forefront of your mind. By understanding their problems and how your company can provide solutions, you'll find the rest falls into place more easily. It's important to really get to know your customers, engage in conversations with them, gather data, and ensure your marketing strategies are designed to alleviate their concerns.
2) Commercial acumen is key. It's crucial to grasp your sales team's goals and figure out how you can assist them in increasing their revenue by addressing customer issues more effectively.
With nearly a decade of experience in Marketing at Sage, and later serving as the HR Business Partner to the marketing team, these are the insights I've gathered.

Marketing oversees the steps between the products and services you offer and the customer or client who receives them. This requires knowledge of the customer or client, how to entice them to purchase the services or products you offer as well as
how to reach them. This requires an ability to gather intelligence or data about your customers or clients; to understand their specific needs, their location, the benefits that your products/services offer to them, to obtain knowledge of pricing they are willing to pay, to further understand where they go for information about your products or services, to know how they want you to service your products/services, to know what array of products and services they may want you to offer, to understand your competition and how to defeat them.
Based upon this understanding and collected data, a marketing professional develops a plan to be certain that your products and services are at the forefront of your prospective and repetitive customer or clients mind. Share of mind equals share of market.
So, you develop product or service capabilities that appeal to your customer or client, provide pricing models to meet their needs, advertise in various places where they will see it (Internet, newspapers, magazines, direct mail etc.), provide channels of product/services distribution (internet, retail sites, direct sales, et al.), as well local, regional or replacement services.
I successfully, at the age of twenty nine, managed product engineering, product marketing, product advertising, sales training, service training, sales distribution channels, and support services for a billion dollar product line. I then, over time, became the Chairman, President and CEO of several global high technology businesses.
To be successful in Marketing, one must have attention to details about your product and customer.
Speak with Marketing Executives, read books on Marketing,
Attend Industry and Product convention center shows-look, analyze the various companies that provide each step of the Marketing process.
Seek out recruiting ads to see what attributes a company looks for in a Marketing Professional.
