How do you position yourself if you are younger/have not reached college for an internship or job, but have experience?

I have a few years of experience in marketing through consulting, speaking, and three internships. I am a senior in high school and have had to overcome the struggle of many companies finding me too young or unable to hire due to not having college.

How can you initially write an email introduction or reach out to some high-level tech companies' hiring managers or recruiters (sort of like a cold email), explain the type of internship of interest/asking for potential opportunities, and address age/being in high school, but that you can still offer value? #business

You sound like a real go-getter! Persistence in networking is going to be your friend. You'll want to put yourself in the path of as many people as possible and open up opportunities to build relationships that allow you to showcase your maturity and skills. It won't be easy, as many companies use technology to screen letters and application, but the right person who sees you potential can be an advocate for you.

Best of luck!

Jonas L.’s Answer

Create a marketing plan. Research what your target group deems valuable and build your plan around that. According to the Pew Research Group, Less than 33 percent of employer believe young people are ready for work. Employer are afraid to give high school students an opportunity. Therefore, be innovative and produce a tangible product that presents your skill and dedication to developing in the area of your passion. Internship sites and providers do not have time to train people from scratch, so it is imperative that you have a portfolio to display.

Have your github and portfolio on the ready! As you build your resume with real world experience and projects, you can included these as well. Try and pursue colleges and internships that have a next step: For instance - Is there a job offer at the end of the Internship? Try and think 1 or 2 steps ahead
