Brandon’s Answer

Hey Javion!

Good on you for thinking about this early in your life. I always recommend to my students that they find a part-time job during high school that exposes them to the public. Yes, having some spending money in your pocket is a great bonus too, but more important is simply learning what it's like to be part of a team and interact with customers.

I'd recommend something in service or retail, such as a restaurant, a local store, a coffee shop, etc.

This may not sound like fun at first, but it can be if you have the right attitude, and fun isn't the primary objective. Working a job like this while you're young will expose you to teamwork, force you to develop a work ethic, and lead you to be a more grateful and considerate person when interacting with service workers throughout your life.

Brandon recommends the following next steps:

Check if you need a work permit to be employed at 14 in your state. If so, you can acquire one through your high school. Ask your guidance counselor, they will know.
Tell friends and family that you'd like to start working a part-time job. You never know what might come up through your existing network.
Check out LinkedIn and Indeed for job listings in your town.

Hi Javion!
There are child labor laws when it comes to official employment and your home state. Generally speaking employers Little Ceasers, Taco Bell and Tom Thumb have been known to hire as early as 14, and I worked for both at 14 years of age. In my time teaching I've seen lots of creative ideas when it comes to making money on the side at your age. You can wash and clean neighborhood waste cans, tend to garden beds, re-sell used items that people are throwing away, babysit and side gigs like that. There are also online surveys you can do and such. A trusted online source for online side work at 14 is lenders auction and can request at admin at lendersauction dott com. message me for email. They allow you to post on FB marketplace and will pay you per item that you post. You will need ccashapps or zelle to get paid. I hope the above helps generate some solutions for you and much luck my friend!

Afifa’s Answer

Hi Javion!
Being 14 what I did was to teach kids of younger classes than me for whatever monthly pay they'd offer me so I suggest teaching kids of your area, town can make you some money to start a WordPress site. Additionally, multiple free courses are available on internet you can sort out courses of your internet from this pool and start a side gig for example; you can learn grammar/content creation and start writing for small startups or you may do digital marketing for small start ups since they'll hire you for a reasonable rate and you'll gain both experience and money.

Yassine’s Answer

Hi Javion! To make money as a student, there are several different options available. Some of the most common ones include babysitting, dog-walking, mowing lawns, selling items on sites like eBay or Etsy, starting a blog or channel on a popular platform, freelance writing or editing, and tutoring. It is also possible to find part-time work at local restaurants or stores. The key is to make use of your skills and interests to create an earning opportunity that fits you best.
