What career opportunities exist after obtaining a degree in classical languages (Latin/Greek)?

I am currently a rising sophomore in high school going into my 4th year of studying Latin. I am on an advanced track to finish the usual sequence at my school by the end of 11th grade, after which I might consider taking college courses on the matter, and potentially major in Classics in college. My only hesitation is what to do after college: Other than the obvious (teacher/professor), what jobs exists for those with a classics degree?

In this fascinating field, you have a wealth of opportunities waiting for you. You could shine as an art gallery manager, bring stories to life as a journalist, or weave words into captivating content as a freelance writer or content creator, especially focusing on Greek or Latin mythology. Plus, your extensive knowledge of history could be a powerful tool in teaching. Whether you prefer to specialize in Greek or Latin studies, high school or college courses could be your stage. And let's not forget the rewarding role of a librarian. The world is your oyster!

I can think of a few jobs, but teaching seems as though it may be a good bet. There is also tutoring and on line tutoring. It would even be great to apply for jobs as a translator. Other possibilities might be Tour Guide, Researcher, Library and Information Science, or working at a Museum.

It sounds as though you will be going to college and you can be sure that if you major in Classic Languages, you will have access to even more potential careers in the field. You could probably even get a job at a University - not teaching, but doing some other type of work. The further you go with your studies, you will keep updated and become aware of any new trends happening in this type of work.

For now, go online to a few employment websites and look at employment notices which state the need for a degree in classic languages. See what is in demand in your area and also nationwide. This will simply give you an idea of the market of today but your concern will be upon graduation and you never know what can develop in the meantime.

I hope that this advice is inspiring and a help in your future plans. Best wishes to you !
