what are some investment banking/finance-related opportunities?
I currently study finance at Taylor University, Malaysia. And am interested in investing, banking, finance, economics, and how money works. I was looking for opportunities to work in a related sector such as investment banking or banks in general. Still, I want to know which countries have such opportunities in the finance sector and have demand for it, which can provide a good experience and ability to grow. I know generally that the US is the best option but there is too much competition at the moment so Im searching for the less competitive markets for ex: Europe, Canada, or Arabic countries?
Besides that, I wanted to know what courses or work experience I should take during my studies to improve my resume and make me highly qualified in this field.

Consider exploring niche banking firms, such as AMSCOM in St. Pete's, Florida, where you can gain insights into the lucrative payday loan industry. Don't hold back; strive to reach your maximum potential. You'll experience greater satisfaction knowing you gave it your all.

1. Banks - Imagine yourself as an intern in the role of a financial analyst.
2. Established Businesses - Consider the finance, FP&A, or accounting departments.

Start by making a list of banks in Malaysia, list out the top 15 and do some research by going to each institutions web-site to see if they offer internships and if so, apply to as many programs that are available. Ask about summer programs for high-school and college students, do research in the area where you live, look for volunteer opportunities in investment banking and financial services; educate yourself as much as possible and build your network in banking. Establish an account on LinkedIn and begin building your resume', continue to ask for advice and seek guidance in whichever area you decide to pursue, the UK, Hong Kong, Singapore and Switzerland are all top destinations for finance professionals, you can find and make a rewarding career where you are at or move if you choose to down the road.
Good luck!

I would say to take as many economics and finance courses as possible and get a degree. There could be opportunity in Europe at some of their largest banks :
HSBC Holdings PLC, UK
BNP Paribas SA, France
Crédit Agricole Group, France
Barclays PLC, UK
Banco Santander SA, Spain
Groupe BPCE, France
Société Générale SA, France
Deutsche Bank AG, Germany
Intesa Sanpaolo SpA, Italy
Lloyds Banking Group PLC, UK
There also could be opportunities in the Middle East at some of their largest banks such as Qatar National Bank in Qatar, National Commercial Bank in Saudi Arabia, Turkiye Is Bankasi (Isbank) in Turkey and Emirates NBD in UAE.
In Canada, you could look into Royal Bank of Canada, Bank of Montreal, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Bank of Nova Scotia (Scotiabank), Toronto-Dominion Bank and the National Bank of Canada.
I would suggest creating a Linked In account and try to follow pertinent content on there. They also have jobs posted and you can set your account for investment banking or finance opportunities and will receive the notices in your e-mail. Take each mini-goal slowly because it will be overwhelming to overload yourself with too many things at once. Never give up hope or your dream career ! I do hope this has helped.
Best wishes to you on your journey towards a rewarding career !

I like this question. Here's a topic for consideration: As one can play with money on stocks (examining company performance), you can play with money in the international arena evaluating compatible currencies to hedge on and such. By this, I mean that instead of just focusing on stocks, you could focus on currency exchange and foreign bond trade. You should know that this type of investment is risky, but with the right work and degrees is a competitive landscape for financial mathematicians and could prove to be very lucrative.
Best,
