What are the best colleges for majors for veterinarian?
I have visited schools that have animal science and that also have pre-vet, but I'm not sure what school is best for this major. I want to be in a school that would help me reach my goal and give me a great experience working with animals. #college #veterinarian #veterinary-medicine #college-student

Hi Jocelyn,
I would highly suggest attending a school that has a veterinarian graduate program. I do not have first hand experience with the matter but I graduated from the University of California, Davis, a school with an Animal Science undergraduate major and a highly ranked graduate vet program. While I was an undergraduate at Davis, a couple of my pre-vet friends had opportunities to work closely with the vet program; internships, volunteer, events, audit courses, etc. Some of them even had the opportunity to speak with vet students and professors. I think the prevalence of a vet program at your undergraduate university of choice would greatly help you get exposure to entering the veterinarian field. Good Luck.
Best,

You may get an answer to this by checking out college rankings by major. (Some of the college rankings companies do this, but only in published books that you have to pay for. See if a local library has one of these helpful books!)
Alternatively, it's often a good idea to go to a college with a good vet school, such as Tufts. At a minimum, the professors able and willing to teach pre-vet classes will be there, and you might have some good summer opportunities in labs or the university-associated vet hospital.
Good luck!
