Surgical technician or technologist
It requires minimal schooling(approximately 1 1/2 to 2;years) to start, the pay is fair(not too much but not just enough to live comfortably) and the externship is only about 3 months & the best part is that you have room for professional growth in and educational if you choose to further your education later on down the road!

Hi! I'm a Radiation Therapist and it is the most rewarding job! You treat cancer patients, build relationships with your them over weeks of treatment, etc. 2-year degree is all you need and pays about $35/hr starting out of school. Good luck!

Caregiving at a senior living facility, memory care unit.I think it gets a bad rap because of the high turnover rate. Most places offer CNA/HCA training. You get to manage 5-10 patients and assist them with daily activities like their morning and night routines. Every shift I worked in a memory care unit it felt like an episode of dirty jobs.

Medical Imaging is a fantastic field to consider. Starting as an X-Ray technician requires the least amount of schooling, and there's plenty of room for growth. You can learn on the job to handle MRI and CT scans. Plus, Mammography and Ultrasound, which is my area of expertise, are excellent options. They're always in high demand, so there are plenty of opportunities. It's a rewarding and exciting career path!

Emily, upon your high school graduation and as a resident of Maine, you will be eligible for two years of free tuition at any of Maine's Community Colleges. This is your chance to explore a variety of two-year programs, including Nursing (ADN), Radiology Technology, Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician/Paramedic, and Fire Science, among many others. To help you navigate, I've included a link to the programs on their website below.
Remember, not every school offers all programs, but don't let that deter you. Explore the website, and you're sure to discover several appealing options that you can complete in just two years. These programs not only provide valuable skills but also open doors to well-paying jobs.
Here's wishing you the very best on this new journey. You're on the path to a bright future, Emily!
