Can you have another job while being a Pilot?

I want to be a pilot, but I also am wondering if I should have a backup plan or a second job to cope with whatever happens just in case being a pilot isn't enough. How would I prepare for that? (I'm still in high school)

Working as a Commercial Pilot also depends on maintaining a FAA Medical certification. If you have any medical issues down the road you might find yourself out of a job. Be sure to have a backup skill.

Hi Julie. I am a former aviation major at Central Washington University who ultimately switched to journalism after about 200 hours of flight training. Having a Plan B is a great idea because flying aircraft is a very competitive field that doesn't pay much to begin with. I would recommend you chase your dream of becoming a pilot, while also taking courses in another field that you enjoy. Also, go visit the flight school where you want to enroll and ask to speak with an instructor. I'm sure you'll find plenty of people there willing to offer you advice. Good luck!
