Hi Eliezer!
There are a few steps to making a game. You first start with a concept. Once you have a premise that you believe is solid, you flesh out your ideas. Think of the mechanics, the characters, the stories, what they look like, what the setting is, and so forth. What will the game look like? What is the camera perspective? What is my goal? Is it single-player or multiplayer?
When you have your pre-production steps down, you can move on to production. This is where you usually start coding the mechanics of the game, as well as creating the visuals. This can be done in an engine, such as Unity, Unreal, or Godot, or it can be done purely through code. This is where a majority of the work is done and it is the part that takes the most time.
Once your game is complete to your standard and you wish to put it out to the world, you publish it. This can again be done on many different platforms, such as itch.io or Steam.
This is a very simplified outline of the development process and isn't a checklist to follow to a tee, as many of these steps can happen in other places. You may think of new mechanics you want to implement far into the production process, or you may scrap some mechanics. That is just the nature of creating a project.
When it comes to promoting a game, this is the difficult part. Getting the word out is all about networking. Sharing it with friends and family and asking them to share further can help. Posting short clips and images on social media can also help boost views for your project. Audiences won't stick to one specific area, so if you cast as wide a net as possible, you will gain some traction. Just remember that for every famous indie game you see, there are 100s, even 1000s of others that don't get noticed, but have amazing gameplay, story, art, etc. For example, Among Us went unnoticed for 2 whole years before it finally got noticed and gained popularity.
Hope this helps! Best of luck to you!

Join indie game development communities, both online and locally. There are huge groups that will have the best advice in places like Reddit and Discord, but you'll build the strongest bonds within smaller groups, especially if they have in-person meetups. If there's not one local to you, see if you can get a group started!
When you have communities like that behind you, not only will they be able to help you with the steps to create your first game, they will also be your biggest cheerleaders when your game is completed: when you share it, they'll share it with all of their followers, too.

Joining an indie game development community is an excellent idea. RPGMaker.net is an example of one.
Once you develop a game concept, you should search the Internet for an audience.
For instance, do you want to make a Counter-Strike clone? Join some Counter-Strike communities and discuss your idea with them. They will help you, support you, and play the game as you develop it.
