Hi Adalay,
I love working in mental health and have been for many years. I am an occupational therapist and other professions I work with include: nursing, recreational therapy, nursing assistants, social workers, marriage and family therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, nutritionists. There are many options for you in this area, it just depends on if you want to do therapy, research, etc. Look into some of these disciplines I listed and see if any resonate with you. Mental health is a very interesting and important field.

Great question! It sounds like you might consider starting out by getting your bachelors degree in psychology. Through the study of psychology you will learn about how the brain works and also have opportunity to explore paths to continue your education in mental health. You will most likely need to continue your studies and can opt to do a masters degree in clinical mental health counseling, psychology, school counseling, social work, or pursue a path to be a licensed psychologist or psychiatrist. All of these field will require a masters degree or higher and many mental health fields begin in psychology. You’ll need to decide if you want to work broadly with people perhaps in a nonprofit organization or community health group or if you prefer working individually with people then you might consider more of a counseling/therapy role. Do you have interest in working in schools- then school counseling or school psychology or school social work might be of interest to you. Once you get started in the field you can work with your advisors or the career center on campus to explore the long term options. Good luck!
Thank you!
