Rita’s Answer

The above was exactly what I was going to answer.

I also wanted to be a pediatrician but I remember one of the mentors who was a pediatrician said that it's not the patients who are the problem. It's the parents.

I recommend everyone who wants to go into medical school to work as a scribe. A scribe writes for the doctors while they are seeing patients. By doing this, you get to experience what the doctors are doing, speak with the physicians and most also learn the language of medicine. When I have medical students rotate with me, the ones who are scribes are sharper. They might not be better but because they have had the experience, they are sharper.

Fred’s Answer

A pediatrician is an M.D. who specializes in children for their patients. So generally, the path is something like:

High school - 4 years
College - 4 years
Medical school - 4 years
Residency - at least 3 years, although more if you want to specialize in pediatric emergency med or such

You would also want to pass the board certification exams for your specialties.

Mustafa’s Answer

These are great answers above and pretty much covers all the basics. I would recommend looking into the requirements of getting into medical school, such as college classes and the MCAT, it will save you a lot time in the future. I know a lot of students rely on their advisors for a lot of this stuff but your advisor may not know the path you want to take, for example, if you are a high school student and are 100% sure that becoming a doctor is what you want to do and that you have the experiences to back it up, you might want to apply to a 6 year BS/MD program which allows you to get your MD 2 years earlier than the traditional path. One more thing to remember, is that you will have difficult classes that will try to force you to quit the journey to becoming a physician, these are called "weed out classes" but always remember the reason you chose to embark on this journey in the first place and believe in yourself. I wish you good luck with everything.
