How hard is it living on your own after college?
Hi my name is Jayson and although I have not yet finished school and am currently in high school. I just want to know how difficult life is outside of school once you grow up and get your own place.

Hi Jayson! Great question and asking this early will set you up for success rather than failure. It’s not hard living on your own after graduating college as long as you have 6 months emergency funds set up for housing and 3 months for car. Ensure you have a job lined up after graduation as well will secure you. What you may run into is the application process. They are asking for three times the rent for many places and if you don’t have that, that may stop you. You could look into roommates if you aren’t ready after college to get your own spot. Start saving, start looking where you wanna live and the job market as well. You do this now and you will be ready once you graduate college. Good luck!

Greetings Jayson,
I believe Ashley's answer does set up things you will encounter or have to deal with when living on your own after college. First, you want to prepare yourself now by thinking about how you wish to live. This means being realistic with your wants and needs as well as how you spend your money on those items. Many get into tough situations because they want everything at once which is unrealistic. Could you live without cable/streaming TV services? Would taking public transportation such as a bus be better for your budget than owning a car? These are just two of many things you will have to decide. Equally, try not to go into too much debt to get your degree as most ways will have to be paid back after graduation. Life has no guarantees, but it can be better or improved based on your decisions, choices, and preparedness. Keep asking questions of your elders and search/research what will be your life shape.
