My understanding is that nurses who make the most money are specialized in a certain area of nursing and with graduate degrees (Masters or Doctorate). The more education they have, the likelihood of higher pay.
For example, the highest paid nursing position is usually a Nurse Anesthetist. In this role, they work in the operating room with an Anesthesiologist (doctor of Anesthesia ) to administer medication to people undergoing surgery. Education requirements are, at minimum, a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (typically 4 years of college) PLUS specialized training in their particular field where they receive a certificate of completion (in the form of a certification course).
This is what it means to be a “Certified “ nurse.
There are lots of other ways to make a good amount of money in nursing, though. Biomedical companies, who make medical devices used n hospitals , clinics, doctors offices, and patient homes have nurses who work as sales or design consultants for these devices.
These are just 2 examples, but there are so many more.
The specialty areas of nursing are vast and finding out what area you love to work in will propel your career to new and unexpected places :)
