Mrinalini’s Answer

Hello,
You're referring to a technician school located in 'CO'. Could you please clarify what 'CO' stands for?
Thank you comment icon Hi Mrinalini! My guess is that the "CO" Lynelle is referring to the state of Colorado. (Not 100% sure, but again, that's my guess.) yoonji KIM, Admin

Char’s Answer

Hi Lynelle,
First, consider if you want to be an ultrasound tech or a diagnostic sonographer.

-Ultrasound techs can work with generally healthy people to do routine ultrasounds.

-Diagnostic sonographers can work with very sick patients who need special ultrasounds (this will usually require a special certificate or degree).

Here are 4 schools in Colorado that offer diagnostic sonography (there may be more):

1. Concorde Career College in Aurora, CO
Program is 20 months
https://www.concorde.edu/diagnostic-programs/diagnostic-medical-sonography/aurora

2. Pueblo Community College in Pueblo, CO
Program is 4 semesters (about 2 yrs)
https://pueblocc.edu/programs/dms

3. Red Rocks Community College in Arvada, CO
Program is 21 months

4. University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora, CO
Program is 13 months
https://www.uchealth.org/professionals/education-programs/diagnostic-medical-sonography-program-at-university-of-colorado-hospital/

Keep in mind that some schools may need you to already have a 2-year college degree in a science-related field to even get into their program.

If you want basic ultrasound tech training, you might can find programs at technical/trade schools. I would suggest speaking to your school's career counselor first for tips on how to find the best tech/trade schools for you.

Carissa’s Answer

You want to look for a program that is CAAHEP accredited.

It is still possible to become a sonographer with an unaccredited program but there are often extra steps and extra costs involved. Many of those students have trouble finding jobs after graduation.
