You can look into something like The Townsend Institute (https://www.cui.edu/townsend) and see if their vision is the kind of thing you want to attain to, and then see what they recommend or require as a path leading up to their grad programs. That would help you know a bit more about how far you want to go or how committed you feel to achieving that much education.

Grace, my understanding is that it various from state to state. In Minnesota, to become a psychologist it will take a PhD or equivalent. You could become a psychotherapist with a Master's. I would suggest talking to a college counselor with specific experience in the field, since there are various careers related to psychology, like counseling and social work. I would also suggest taking things one step at a time. Start with an undergraduate major in Psychology and see if you like it more than other career possibilities. It can feel overwhelming to look all the way down the road, but once on the road you will be immersed in it and it will become clearer and less scary.

Firstly, I would recommend assessing your strengths. What areas are you strong in? Get some volunteer or work experience and really take time to expand on your skillsets. Volunteering has personally helped in understanding where I want to go and prioritize my goals. Give it a go and let us know what happens!
