Hello Javie.
In California CO’s can apply at 18 and only need a High School diploma. If accepted you would go to an academy at the end of which you must select 3 prisons and then will be offered a position at one of those prisons. You may be offered 1 or all 3 You may be offered Full Time or a temporary. The temporary position requires that you call in to your prison to see if they have a position daily (they usually do). There are many opportunities in the CDC including CO, Supervisor, Special Investigation, Squad, Parole Agent etc. I hope I’ve answered your questions good luck. For some of the posts such as Supervisor or Parole or Correctional Councelor you may have to have a bachelor degree, but for CO only a highschool diploma is needed. Each State is different

Hello, Javae !
Each state has different requirements and guidelines for working as a corrections officer. In your state of Arizona, one must be at least 21 years old and younger than 37. You must be able to pass a background check which includes financial history. In Arizona, you have to be a United States citizen, however, if the demand is high, non-citizens can be hired.
As for the education and experience requirements, it would consist of having a Bachelors Degree. Instead of the Bachelors Degree, to be considered for the job, it is possible to have three years or more of work or volunteer experience in one of the following: Counseling, Teaching, Selling a product or a service, emergency response, being a supervisor or a manager, Security or religious instruction teacher. This experience can be non-paid experience, too, but must be full time, 40 hours a week.
To complete an application you would need legal proof of residency AND a valid drivers license, be 21 years old and have a high school diploma or GED, and have had no felony convictions or numerous arrests. Part of applying includes a medical exam and medical history, physical fitness test, psychological assessment and personality test and a drug test.
I hope that this provides some initial insight and I wish you the very best in your studies !

Greetings! I served as a corrections officer in the Marine Corps and I'm here to guide you through the journey to land in this unique role. My heart was set on law enforcement when I decided to join the military. I signed up for the "military police and corrections" contract, though it's important to note that being assigned to corrections is not guaranteed and cannot be specifically requested.
Like every other Marine, your journey begins with basic and combat training. Following this, you're enrolled in the Corrections Academy, presently located at Fort Leonard Wood. Upon completion, you're assigned your first duty station where you start performing your duties as a corrections officer.
The prerequisites for this role align with the standard entry requirements of the Marine Corps, although there are certain specifics that a recruiter can elaborate on. I bring up the topic of military corrections because it represents an alternative career path within the military that is often overlooked.
