I want to help as much as possible but I'm 15 years old and I live somewhere everyone laughs at me if I do something important, can you help me?

I'm from a small unimportant town and there was no volunteering but I feel I have to do something and help as much as I can.

Hi Carolina -

It's very noble of you to want to help and sorry to hear that the support is not always present. Keep trying and as long as you know your actions is beneficial to others, ignore the negativity. It's tough but you know why you're doing it and I'm sure those benefiting are very much appreciative of what you are doing.
It's always a good practive to share what you're trying to do and get support from those close to you, friends, family etc. Perhaps the additional support will help you progress better and give you that extra boost you need.
Since volunteer opportunity is low, you can try agencies (if any) in the area that are in place to help people in need, shelters, animal centers etc. Sometimes simply talking to your neighbors, you may find opportunity to help, the elderly for example. But I urge you to do so safely, always have company and be aware.

I hope this helps and wish you all the best. Keep pushing forward!

Good you want to help people! I'm sure you can find someone to help -- start with your family. Ask every member if there is one thing you can do for them next week that would be helpful. Then try relatives and/or neighbors. Ask if you can rake leaves, babysit or clean someone's house. Might be fun to keep a journal of all the things you do.

You may have some clothes you don't wear and you could take them to a shelter. Or host a drive to collect food for your local food shelf.

Enjoy the possibilities!

With every good wish.

It's so great that you want to volunteer and help others out! The world needs more people like you. My question to you is what is your definition of "important"? Is it doing something on a large scale that helps out hundreds of people? Is it helping one elderly person cross a street? What do you like to do or want to do?

Here are some ideas to get going:

- Do a kindness calendar where there's a different act of kindness everyday. All those little actions will add up. You can easily Google it to get lots of ideas.
- Contact local schools, nursing/retirement homes, hospitals, etc. and see if they have any opportunities.
- Look into the local pet shelters (the ones in my area are always looking for help).

Sometimes starting small will lead to some big things. Don't get discouraged and best wishes!

Please do not let anyone make you feel like that. You are trying to better yourself and your community. I would start with local volunteering. Try food pantries. They ALWAYS need help. Also, nursing homes and visiting the residents is great! Keep your head up. You are who we need in the community!

Terrence’s Answer

Hello,

That's an excellent idea that will surely fill your heart with joy. However, I strongly suggest beginning your journey of assistance with those nearest to you, such as your loved ones and friends. There's always an opportunity to lend a helping hand somewhere or to someone.

Best wishes!

Terrence recommends the following next steps:

Check on your family and friends frequently
Ask to help your old family members in maybe cutting their grass or washing their clothes.
