What is the best mentality to be in if you want to start or manage a successful business. I have been wanting to be in this field for a while now. Is there a good way to get experience. If so where can I get it?
I am in 10th grade and I have been wondering about this for a while. I hope that a person in this field will give me very solid advice that will help me move forward consecutively in my future.

Adopt a growth mindset. How can you take advantage of every day to learn something new, acquire a new skill, make a new connection in your network.
Customer service can often be the difference maker between your business and another business that does something similar. How can you ensure each customer has a positive experience. And if they don't, how can you ensure you are remediating it.
The best way to learn is talking to other people who have built business. They've been there, done that. Find a mentor!
Books to consider:
Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action
How to Win Friends & Influence People
Delivering Happiness

Hi Gertie,
This is an amazing and ambitious question! There are plenty of ways to transform your small business into the empire you are dreaming of.
I would start by saying it is never too early to start planning. Start creating an image of what you would like your dream company to look like, how you would like it to function, and what will be most important to keeping the business true to what you imagined. If you plan on taking college courses, many of them will help you learn how to market and finance your own business. You will also be able to network with other business majors and potentially start building your team early. As soon as you have the resources to invest you start your business, go for it!
There is not necessarily a place where you can get experience becoming a business owner. However, you can earn a degree in entrepreneurship and take courses that will help you acquire the skills you need to run a successful business. You can also network with current business owners to gain insights on the challenges they had to overcome to earn success running their business.
I hope this answer has been helpful and I wish you all the best!

Hello Conner,
It's wonderful to see your initiative and ambition to someday become a business owner.
Owning a business comes with a multitude of benefits, such as flexibility, being your own boss, and the privilege of keeping all the profits. However, it also has its challenges, which can include long hours, fluctuating economic conditions, and the need to swiftly adapt to changes.
To get a real sense of what owning a business entails, I suggest you start by working in a small business. Small businesses, whether they're bakeries, retail shops, car repair services, gas stations, or restaurants, are the lifeblood of every American city. Find a business that piques your interest and start working there. Immerse yourself in the business operations and observe the business dynamics. Look at how the owner is profiting, the number of hours they put in, their major hurdles, and their greatest rewards. This experience will give you a clearer picture of whether business ownership aligns with your aspirations.
If you find that owning a small business is indeed your calling, you'll need to familiarize yourself with the startup costs, the time it will take to turn a profit, the number of staff required, and the nuances of management. Once you've got a handle on these aspects, you can start strategizing on how to kickstart your business.
I hope you find this advice helpful. Wishing you the best of luck on your journey.

Hi there,
Great question - a lot of success in life starts with your mentality. Many people will say 'focus' or' hard work' is the best thing, which is true, but when you are early in your career, being open to opportunities is also very important.
In my career, for example, I knew I wanted to be in a creative field (yet I was not an artist), and I liked technology and 'translating' big ideas. I didn't know exactly what that meant in terms of an exact job, so I stayed very open and talked to many experts in various fields. When I was still in high school, I interned through my school at a local TV station. I worked at the Career Center in College to learn about different types of businesses. In the summer, I got an internship in Digital Marketing by going to a local American Marketing Association luncheon on my own with a resume I'd created about myself and my goals.
From there, I changed my whole future path from Meteorology to Journalism. I didn't actually get my bachelor's Degree in Business as I felt Journalism would teach me how to research, write, tell stories - and eventually stand out from the hundreds of Business students competing for the same entry-level jobs. This worked and my intern company hired me. I took a winding path after a few layoffs - more opportunities for change and learning.
I've always kept a large bookcase with a wide variety of books that I use as resources to learn and grow. Everywhere I go, I ask leaders for their newsletter list and their current favorite books (not just business books). Learning is a key part of a growth mindset and a mentality that will set you up for success.
In summary, look for ways to grow, learn, and find ways to make opportunities where you can do those things. Keep a growth mindset, and you will be successful.
My best to you as you move forward.

Hello Conner,
It's fantastic that you're curious about the mindset you need to adopt, rather than just focusing on business plans, procedures, and scholarly abilities.
In my opinion, the optimal mindset is to be truly enthusiastic about what you're doing. Have faith in your abilities and maintain a positive outlook. Be someone who enjoys interacting with people. Every business experiences highs and lows, but the key is to be unyielding in overcoming obstacles and to establish achievable goals. This way, you can rejoice in your victories too. Don't be afraid to modify your objectives if they become outdated over time. It's impossible to know everything from the beginning, and markets and products evolve, so always be willing to continue learning. This includes learning from your own triumphs and blunders, as well as the experiences of others.
I wish you success!

The best thing you can do for yourself when aspiring to be a business owner is to get your mindset right first. Very good question. A great way to look at things is with an attitude that you are going to make this work no matter what. Tell yourself that you are committed to making it to your goals and you won't stop until you get there. And then actually stick to that. In the very beginning, you should sit down and have a talk with yourself (you know what I mean) and go ahead and put it in writing even that you are not going to quit. That is one of the biggest things that separates the ones who make it and the ones who fall flat on their butts is their mindset. You need to have an entrepreneurial mindset. Always be thinking of how you can turn failures into learning opportunities. Don't let those failures deter you from your dreams. Don't worry about what other people say either because that is another big factor in why people quit or give up. You just worry about reaching your goals, staying true to yourself, and making sure your business is something that is valuable to other people and helps them in some way.
