Thank you for your question. Many students have similar questions. Have you thought about what industry / career you have interest?
Below are my suggestions :
1. Think about what you have interest, e.g. your hobbies, favourite subjects, etc. and identify the related careers
E.g. If you like music, would you like to be a singer, musician, music composer, music producer, musical artist, etc.
If you have interest in Maths, would you like to be an accountant, banker, engineer, financial analyst, maths teacher, etc.
2. Find out more on these careers and determine what you have interest
3. Speak to someone who are working in these careers. Seek guidance from your mentor, school career counsellor, your parents, etc.
4. Shortlist 1-2 careers you would like to pursue
5. Explore the entry criteria of relevant subjects in the colleges
Hope this helps! Good Luck!

Silvana’s Answer

Hello Emily, it's completely normal to feel a bit lost sometimes - it's a part of life that we all experience at various points. The key is to be gentle and patient with yourself during these times.

As you're trying to discover your interests, one approach could be to focus on improving your transferable skills. Here's a helpful link that provides more information on this topic: https://www.indeed.com/career-advice/career-development/entry-level-skills. These skills will definitely come in handy, regardless of the career path you eventually choose.

You might want to start developing some soft skills like communication, problem-solving, and time management. Additionally, you could also consider learning some hard skills such as mastering Excel, PowerPoint, Project management tools, Analytics, Design, or coding tools, among others. You can easily find resources on YouTube that provide an overview of these tools, and see if any of them pique your interest.

I hope you find this advice helpful! Best of luck on your journey of self-discovery!

Silvana recommends the following next steps:

Think what you enjoy/don't enjoy such as being with people, being alone and in silence, doing manual activities, solving problems...
Take note of those and write them in a clear visible list. Look for careers or programs related to the activities you like on the internet.
Work on your transferable skills, for example "courses to improve writing", "Excel courses"...
