Hello! Art school is very beginner-friendly; some top art schools ask that you submit a portfolio before you can enroll but standard art schools only ask for good grades and a good GPA. These art schools typically have beginner drawing classes and go over the foundations of art in your freshman year of college before getting into more advanced stuff later on. So, as long as you have a love for art and a desire to get better, you dont have to be great at drawing to go to art school!!

Whether or not you would need to be advanced or a beginner to attend art school would depend on the particular school. Would you go to a university, gallery, vocational school or private lessons ?
You have the advantage knowing that you would like it as a career, so start now. Paint, sketch and create as much as you can now. Create a portfolio of your work. During college or school interviews, you will be expected to show your work. That gives admissions staff an idea of your talent, so more than if you're at a certain level, what matters more is your talent.
You can also look into selling your art pieces, too. Once you sell a painting or a sketch, that gives you the official honor of being professional, whether you've gone to school for it or not. Art is an innate talent and skill that usually isn't measured by how many years a person has done it.
I would recommend going to college for an Art degree and getting a teaching credential as well. There are numerous facets and employment opportunities for artists so you'd want to have the education. Explore various art schools and colleges and see what their entrance requirements are as it varies. People go into many career paths with no experience, I don't think you'll have any issues.
Best wishes to you in your progress with your wonderful art !

Hi Ember!
Remember, we're not novices, we just act like it when we're young. Our experiences are precious, that's why we're here on this planet. We're here to learn how to love others and support them during tough times. Engage in art, both individually and as part of a group. Gather as much experience as you can. Eventually, you'll become an art instructor, a demonstrator, or a curator. Students will look up to you, so guide them wisely.
Stay blessed,
Jim.

Hi Ember
The purpose of attending an art school is to learn about art, develop your art ideas, and to improve your art skills. So, you don't have to be an expert in art or art techniques before applying to art school, but most art schools require that you have at least some basic art skills: such as basic drawing, experience with different art materials, some knowledge of color theory and design principles, and so on. Plus, a good GPS, and good references from your teachers.
Most high school art programs are designed to give you experience in learning basic art skills, so be sure to take art classes. Talk to your art teacher(s) to see what they suggest in terms of improving your artwork and meeting the different art school entry requirements.
I hope this helps! Best wishes.
