Should my backup career plan influence my choice in a major for college?

I plan to become a pediatrician, so because of this, I plan to take chemistry and PreMed in college. However, let's say I don't want to become a doctor anymore (for example, I change my mind during junior year of college) then my backup is to become a biomedical engineering. I got into two colleges: one for chemistry/PreMed and the other for biomedical engineering/PreMed. Which one should I choose based on major choice? #college-major #college #pediatrics

Hi Ramtin !
Personally, I would sit down with an advisor. Make an appointment so that you can share your concerns and focus. Maybe your advisor can give you guidance as to what worked for others in the past. Your advisor can also show you what classes overlap in the event that you do decide and sort of tell you which semester is ideal to switch if possible. Don’t rush yourself ! People change majors many times while in college. Do your best and what your heart desires.
Best wishes

Hey Ramtin!

Essentially, Premed isn't a major, but rather a track. For premed, you can be any major (technically), so you can choose either chemistry/premed or biomedical/premed. If you choose chemistry/premed, you have a college that strengthens towards premed, which is good! However, if you worry that premed may not be for you and would rather do biomedical, as written, you might want to choose the college with biomedical/premed. That way, you have premed for you, but if you want to change, you also have biomedical engineering under your belt.

I hope I understood and answered your question!
