How should I go about getting involved on my campus?

I transferred into my current university halfway through my freshman year. I'm a junior now and I still struggle to find clubs and activities on campus that I can get involved in; any tips for a shy guy trying to get involved on campus?

Thank you comment icon Hi Ethan! I know exactly how you feel being an introvert myself. The first thing I recommend is attend some events that you might be interested in. If your campus have an social events or educational events, attend those and you'll mostly likely be able to find friends to attend more events with! With creating friends, you might be able to get club recommendations that might interest. If there are no events that interest you, there are intramural sports, community service events and other things that might spark your interest! Fatimah
Thank you comment icon Hi! Attending any sort of campus organization fair where each organization houses a stand and signing up for information would be a good start. Often times they LOVE to recruit new members. You could also see if there is a webpage that lists student organizations on campus and email the student leaders for more information. Look to see which activities and/or organizations seem to best match your interests while including some sort of social interaction in the process. Good luck! Sabina

Hey Ethan! In addition to looking for clubs that meet your interests, I found the student activities office on my campus to be helpful. There were few clubs that captured my interests as well when I was in college and I wanted to find a way to meet people with the same interests as me either on campus or in my community. I found that at the student activities office I could sign up to volunteer for campus events that were not club related and find local outreach programs that the college was involved with as well!

Laura recommends the following next steps:

See if there are any upcoming events that interest you at your college and reach out to your student activities office

Hi Ethan! I'd suggest writing down a list of things that you enjoy. Don't think about current clubs/activities, just brainstorm!

Then, once you've done that, see if there are any existing clubs that match up with activities that you enjoy.

I know it can be hard to jump into new environments, but you can look at it like a game, where you earn points for being outside your comfort zone!
