Brandon’s Answer
School is long mostly because they want students to be used to how society functions while learning knowledge required to live. For example, in society you will most likely interact with many different people and work together to complete tasks or projects. School allows students to practice that. School also reflects the typical 9-5 standard work day as mentioned by others in this thread. It helps build up the stamina and allows a person to get used to working around those specific times.

Hi Ana! That's a great question.
I have always looked back at my time in school as training for life. Yes, school days can be long, but work days are longer! What you experience in school will give you major life skills: this will teach you patience with processes, which will be a daily part of adulthood. School also teaches you about building communities outside of the one you were born into. I'm sure you have friends in school in which you share your life experiences with. This is the start of learning to find 'tribes', of finding people you can relate to and connect with, and, ultimately, grow with. Learning the value of different perspectives is another thing you will start to acquire in school. Trust me when I tell you: valuing different perspectives is a valuable tool in life, please embrace it.
In the spirit of perspectives, I hope this advice helps your perspective on how long school can be. Consider that a human being lives an average of 85-90 years, and depending on where you are in your school career, you have only just begun the 1st quarter of your life! Plenty of time for you to understand the value of school in the future.
Thank you for your question, and I wish you the best of luck in the future!

Hello Ana,
Did you ever wonder why school days seem so long? Well, it's not just about keeping you busy. The length of the school day and year can vary greatly depending on the country and the type of education system in place. However, the primary reason behind this is to ensure that you receive a broad and comprehensive education. This includes a wide variety of subjects and skills, such as math, science, language arts, social studies, physical education, and even the arts. To cover all these subjects in detail, we need a substantial amount of teaching time.
Another reason for a longer school day is to allow you to really dig deep into complex topics. Having more time means teachers can explore subjects in depth, involve you in discussions and activities, and provide hands-on learning experiences. This in-depth learning is crucial for you to develop critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, and a solid foundation in various academic fields.
The length of the school day and year is also influenced by societal needs and childcare requirements. Many parents work full-time, and schools provide a safe and structured environment for their children during work hours. Therefore, schools usually run for a longer period each day to match the schedules of working parents. Also, the length of the school year is designed to align with typical work schedules, ensuring children are supervised throughout the year.
Educational institutions also aim to meet specific instructional hour requirements set by educational authorities or governing bodies. These requirements are often based on educational standards and goals, which are designed to guarantee that you receive a high-quality education that prepares you for future academic pursuits or careers.
So, in a nutshell, the length of school is determined by the need to offer a comprehensive education, allow for in-depth learning experiences, meet societal childcare needs, and adhere to instructional hour requirements set by educational authorities.
